"Beginning of 1101"
Last year, I was sitting in a computer lab signing up for classes thinking, I am going to take as many college courses as possible to try and complete my first year of college. Turns out, I signed up for College English 1101 and 1102. Now I have embarked on this journey; not regretting it, yet not loving it either.
The first assignment we began watching the movie Higher Learning. I began to write my first essay, pondering on issues such as racism, sexism, etc., which was relevant to the movie. I really enjoyed the first writing assignment. It made me think deeper into those certain issues. I also appreciated getting insight from my fellow classmates on what to change and how to make my paper even better, instead of just getting feedback from my teacher. I would not change anything about the way the first assignment was assigned. I appreciated how free we were to write about what we wanted. I really wish I could have wrote the paper better, but it just gives me room for improvement on the next paper.
We have began new technology in this class, which is really awesome. I like how we can put our assignments on the website to be submitted for points. I enjoy working on computers, therefore I enjoy this class. Using technology to learn is a great way to prepare students for something to come, such as college. I am excited to go to college and take notes on my labtop, instead of using a pencil and paper, which is essentially, what we are doing in this class.
I do become a bit overwhelmed with all of my college courses. The only thing I dislike about this class is trying to stay awake while working because of my other difficult classes. I have a long day of classes that begins at 7:00 a.m., unlike any other normal student because I attend chemistry every morning. My attention also disintegrates to nothing by the time I get to the end of the day of classes.
All in all, I really enjoyed the first assignment entitled, "Unlearn", and also excited for the next assignments to come so I can improve on my writing. I also enjoy the use of technology in this class, which is something that can be beneficial to anyone. Even though we have had great assignments to work on, it is still really difficult to pay attention after the long day I encounter. Everything we have done in the class so far has been very beneficial and I would request to take this class in high school to anyone looking to take their college english credits to help prepare themself for other college courses.
